Miracle
Miracle (2004)

The inspiring story of the team that transcended its sport and united a nation with a new feeling of hope. Based on the true story of one of the greatest moments in sports history, the tale captures a time and place where differences could be settled by games and a cold war could be put on ice. In 1980, the United States Ice Hockey team’s coach, Herb Brooks, took a ragtag squad of college kids up against the legendary juggernaut from the Soviet Union at the Olympic Games. Despite the long odds, Team USA carried the pride of a nation yearning from a distraction from world events. With the world watching the team rose to the occasion, prompting broadcaster Al Michaels’ now famous question, to the millions viewing at home: Do you believe in miracles? Yes!

After being charged for drunk driving, the court orders him to coach a peewee hockey team, the worst in the league, Gordon is at first very reluctant. However, he eventually gains the respect of the kids and teaches them how to win, gaining a sponsor on the way and giving the team the name of The Ducks. In the finals, they face Gordon’s old team, coached by Gordon’s old coach, giving Gordon a chance to face old ghosts.

Most anticipated rookie 2011-2012

Brayden Schenn

Brayden Schenn, C, Philadelphia Flyers

Schenn looks like he might have a great opportunity to stay in the NHL this year with the departures of several high impact players from the Flyers.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson

Oliver Ekman-Larsson, D, Phoenix Coyotes

Looks like Oliver will need tobulk up a bit to be the potential player he can be but he still has the opportunity to make an impact this year.

Ryan Johansen

Ryan Johansen, C, Columbus Blue Jackets

Ryan has the all around skill to play every situation. He has the scoring touch to be a great play-maker and a finisher. He could learn a lot of scoring touch from Rick Nash in Columbus or he could be put along side Nash to help both players.

Erik Gudbranson

Erik Gudbranson, D, Florida Panthers

Erik was probably ready to be a regular Panther defenseman last year, but he did not make the team out of training camp. Florida’s coach said he was ready then, so look for him to be a big part of their blueline this year.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, C, Edmonton Oilers

The very young and building Edmonton Oilers have no reason to hold back on letting Ryan showcase his skills on the team this year. He brings high level skill and a fierce desire to play both ends of the ice.

Better NHL Free Agent Signing 2011/2012

Tomas Vokoun Washington Capitals v Brad Richards NY Rangers

Tomas Vokoun, Brad Richards

With the free agent signing of Brad Richards by the New York Rangers, they have upgraded their team in many ways. They have added a top-notch true 1st line center. Richards is a Stanley Cup Champion. Richards was the top of the Free Agents available in the off-season and took less money to go to New York than he could have received from other teams. The savings the Rangers get from this will allow them to attempt to retain their RFA’s and bring in a few more reinforcements(Mike Rupp). The Ranger’s now have another big name in the lineup and one who will bring some new life to the Power Play, one that lacked greatly last year. Maybe the biggest impact from Richards will be teaming him up with Marion Gaborik and provider a formidable top line in the competitive eastern conference.

The Washington Capitals free agent signing of goalie Tomas Vokoun is a sign that the Caps feel their playoffs exit was due to lack of goal-tending. The trading of Semyon Varlamov to the Colorado Avalanche opens up space for Vokoun to compete with Michal Neuvirth for the top spot between the pipes and help the Caps fixed their very disappointing playoffs of late. Vokoun has been a top notch goalie on below average teams through his career so now we will see what he can do on a team that is expected to win. Vokoun has the stats but he has not won anything yet.
